If you want to get away from the mainstream and step into a little piece of Italy, travel to downtown Bryan where you will find a locally owned and operated pizzeria.
This Authentic Italian restaurant has two locations in the Bryan-College Station area. The College Station restaurant is located at 404 University Drive and the other is at 201 West 26th Street in downtown Bryan.
Mr. G’s Pizzeria offers group event hosting and free wireless internet while you dine. One thing that separates this pizzeria from the rest is Mr. G, the owner. He is present inside the restaurant always.
Mr. G’s thick Italian accent is noticed the moment you enter the door, from talking to a customer or barking orders to the waiting staff. One can tell his goal is to achieve ultimate customer service.
I was instantly aware of his unique personality and intertwined in his world.
I ordered the Meatzone Calzone, which consists of an abundance of cheese, hamburger, pepperonis, sausage, and ham. The aroma of the preparation of the calzone seemed to fill up the whole restaurant, leaving my mouth watering in suspense.
The waitress said it would take 15 minutes to cook and as promised, it was. We had to clear the table just so she could lay the massive pizza pan down. My lunch date, Megan, and I starred at each other in awe. How were we going to finish this?
Megan started to carve into the calzone when Mr. G came over to make sure we were doing it right. He is notably in tune to what his visitors are doing at all times. His office even opens up to the restaurant.
With the first slice into the calzone, the Italian cheese oozed out onto the plate. The dipping sauce was more than perfect for the crust. Every aspect of the meal was harmonious.
We finished what we could of our calzone and had the rest boxed up. Just as stated in the menu, it really was any meat lover’s dream.
Monday through Thursday Mr. G’s is open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner is from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday’s hours are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. On Saturdays, Mr. G’s Pizzeria is only open during the hours of 5 to 9 p.m. and is closed on Sunday.
The old music playing, smells, and personalities in Mr. G’s all make the food that much better. I will definitely return soon. I recommend Mr. G’s Pizzeria to anyone looking for fantastic and original Italian food.
